One summer afternoon, the cat was taking a nap as the tiger sitting nearby.Looking at the cat,the tiger suddenly thought, why should he keep befriending with such a small animal since he had already learnt all the skills from the cat?The evil tiger decided to kill the sleeping cat as a before dinner snack. The tiger stood up and approached the cat viciously.Just as this moment, the cat woke up.Opening up her eyes, the smart cat immediately realized what the tiger was trying to do and swiftly jumped onto a nearby tall tree and climbed to the top branch.
The tiger thought he had already learned every skill from the cat .But he never knew that the cat had hidden the tree climbing from him.
I kept the last technique of the tree climbing from you just because I suspected you might be can ungrateful friend.? The cat loudly told the tiger who watched under the tree helplessly.
In ancient times, a man surnamed Dong in the State of Wei was interested in nothing but keeping cats.
He kept over 100 cats in his home, which caught and ate all the rats in the house.
Later, as there were no more rats, the cats were so hungry that they meowed all the time. Dong had to buy meat from the market every day to feed them.
Day after day, year after year, the cats multiplied. As they ate meat every day, they even didn't know there were rats in the world which could be caught and eaten. They meowed whenever they were hungry, and whenever they meowed, they were fed with meat. After they ate their fill, they were happy and carefree, lazy and sluggish, and had nothing to do all day.
In the south of the city, one house was plagued with rats. The rats ran amuck in swarms. Once it so happened that a rat fell into a jar. The master of the house hastened to Dong's home to borrow a cat to catch the rat.
The cat from the Dong family saw the rat in the jar stick up its pointed ears, stare with a pair of pitch-black eyes, shake its red whiskers and squeak. The cat didn't know what a freak the rat was. It only followed the rat moving around on the mouth of the jar, and dared not get into it.
The master was furious at this and pushed the cat down into the jar. At this moment, the cat was panic-stricken and howled loudly at the rat. After a while, the rat eventually found that this cat had no other tricks, so it bit the cat's foot. The Dong's cat was so frightened that it exerted all its strength and made one jump out of the jar and ran away.
Alexander the Great was the son of Philip Ⅱ of Macedon, himself a great warrior who defeated the Greeks in 338 BC, bringing all of Greece under Macedonian control with the exception of Sparta. Alexander's mother was Olympias, princess of Epirus, who according to Plutarch was descended from Achilles' grandfather. Alexander was taught by his mother that Achilles was his ancestor, and that his father was descended from Hercules. Achilles became Alexander's role model in all things, and he kept a copy of Homer's Illiad under his pillow.
Even more ambitious than his father, Alexander wept bitterly as a child when he heard of Philip's conquests. "My father," he said, "will get ahead of me in everything and will leave nothing great for me to do."

Give up halfway
During the Warring States Period (475-221BC), there was a man called Yue Yangzi in State Yue. One day he saw a piece of gold on the road and picked it up. He took it home and gave it to his wife. But his wife was not happy. The virtuous woman said, "I hear that a man of morality doesn't drink a thief's water and a man of probity refuses to accept alms. What do you think of the action of picking up another's lost valuable and possessing it for one's own?"
Yue Yangzi, feeling ashamed, sent the gold back to where he found it.
the next year, Yue Yangzi felt that he should go out and visit scholars to enrich his knowledge. So he set off.
A year later, he came back home suddenly.
"Why have you returned?" asked his wife in surprise, "You've only spent one year studying with scholars."
"I come back because I missed you very much."
Without saying anything, his wife took a pair of scissors and went to the loom at which she had worked. Pointing at the half done brocade, she proclaimed : "This brocade is woven from the finest silk. I wove one strand after another to produce the brocade. Now if I cut it, all my previous work will be wasted. It's the same with your studies. You can acquire knowledge only through diligence. Now, you've stopped halfway. Isn't it the same as cutting the brocade on the loom?"
Yue Yangzi was moved by what she said. He again left home to visit scholars. Several years later he became a learned man.

A boy found an eagle's egg and he put it in the nest of a prairie chicken. The eagle hatched and thought he was a chicken. He grew up doing what prairie chicken do-scratching at the dirt for food and flying short distances with a noisy fluttering of wings. It was a dreary life. Gradually the eagle grew older and bitter. One day he and his prairie chicken friend saw a beautiful bird soaring on the currents of air, high above the mountains.
"Oh, I wish I could fly like that!" said the eagle. The chicken replied, "Don't give it another thought. That's the mighty eagle, the king of all birds-you could never be like him!" And the eagle didn't give it another thought. He went on cackling and complaining about life. He died thinking he was a prairie chicken. My friends, you too were born an eagle. The Creator intended you to be an eagle, so don’t listen to the prairie chickens!

How a Farmer Saved the Snake
One day, it was snowing heavily. It was white everywhere. A farmer had cut some wood and was returning home when he saw a rattlesnake on the road, numb with cold.
"Oh, little snake. Why aren't you at home in such cold weather? Look, you're freezing. Poor you!"
The farmer thought some more to himself. "What can I do for you? Make a fire to warm you? No, it's snowing so hard, and I have only a very small bundle of wood. Besides, my family is waiting for the wood to cook."
The farmer turned round and round anxiously and then said, "I know! I'll put you under my clothes. It's warm there." He unbuttoned his clothes and put the snake inside, against his chest.
Some time later, the snake came to life gradually.
The warmth of the old farmer had not changed its cruel nature. It opened its mouth and bit right into the farmer's chest.
"Oh, my god! How cruel you are! I saved you, but you bit me. Why?" As he was saying this, he took out the snake and threw it on the ground.
But the farmer was already poisoned and was dying. Only at this time did he realize that he had done something wrong. "I took pity on him, but he bit me in return."

The Frog in the Shallow Well
Have you heard of the frog that lived in a shallow well? It said to a turtle that lived in the East Sea, "I am so happy! When I go out, I jump about on the railing beside the mouth of the well. When I come home, I rest in the holes on the broken wall of the well. If I jump into the water,it comes up to my armpits and holds up my cheeks. If I walk in the mud, it covers up my feet. I look around at the wriggly worms, crabs and tadpoles, and none of them can compare with me. I am lord of this trough of water and I stand up tall in this shallow well. I’m happy. My dear sir, why don't you come over and look around my place?"
Before the turtle from the East Sea could get its left foot in the well, its right knee got stuck. It hesitated and retreated. The turtle told the frog about the East Sea.
"Even a distance of a thousand li cannot give you an idea of the sea's width; even a height of a thousand ren cannot give you an idea of its depth. In the time of King Yu of the Xia dynasty, there were floods nine years out of ten, but the waters in the sea did not increase. ln the time of King Tang of the Shang dynasty there were droughts seven years out of eight, but the waters in the sea did not decrease. The sea does not change with the passage of time and its level does not rise or fall according to the amount of rain that falls. The greatest happiness is to live in the East Sea."
After listening to these words, the frog of the shallow well was shocked into realization of his own insignificance and became very ill at ease.
